How to Choose the Right Paint Color

So you’ve decided to go for it—you’re FINALLY going to get around to painting the family room walls, that cabinet in the dining room that needs some serious attention, or that fun accent chair that you bought at Goodwill. Your mind’s made up, and you waltz right into Home Depot’s paint section to check out all the colors. You spend two hours looking at 874 different shades of white, then you finally just go home, empty-handed because your mind is fried and your eyeballs are DRAINED trying to figure out the difference between “Snowball White” and “Crisp Mountain White.” Continue reading “How to Choose the Right Paint Color”

Sophisticated Home

Last week, I had the opportunity to share with our local newspaper our thoughts on what makes a home sophisticated and how can you achieve such a look on a budget. I wanted to open up that conversation for you all as well because I think this whole idea of creating a sophisticated space without breaking your budget is interesting! Laundry Room Overhaul

Usually when I go into a room, I can pretty well get a vision for what I want the space to look like and what decisions would make the room the most practical. In this room, however, I was so frustrated! I have no idea why, but out of all the rooms in our home, this space gave me the most headache. I really wanted to create a beautiful sunroom, full of lush, green plants and lots of natural elements, but since our back door leads into this room, we also needed a designated area for shoes, purses, coats, etc. Then, to throw an ugly wrench in the plans, the washer and dryer had to find a cozy little home in here as well. So basically, I needed to make a laundry room/sunroom/mudroom combination, and make it look somewhat cohesive. Continue reading “Laundry Room Overhaul”

How to Style Open Shelving

Open shelving, at first, is so exciting! There’s so much storage space and places to put all of the random pieces that you’ve collected over time. While the initial thought of them is a positive one, sometimes the thought of decorating them in a way that is uncluttered and cohesive can be daunting! Fear not, friends, these 5 steps will help you have a little more direction on how to style those fun little spaces.

Charcoal Bedroom Overhaul

Don’t get me wrong… I LOVE bright, light, airy, and cozy rooms, and this has been the theme for the entirety of our home. When we started to overhaul the upstairs, however, I knew that I wanted to do something that was a little bit different than my usual color scheme of creamy whites and warm woods. I felt like with 4 windows, the natural light of this room could handle something a little more adventurous, so I decided to go out of my comfort zone with a charcoal paint color and bold, mustard yellow accents.

Country Guest Bedroom Retreat

When we decided to tackle the upstairs of our home, I had a vision and design of what I hoped to transform each space into; however, I quickly realized that these ideas I had were neglecting a lot of the furnishings that we already had. As I started thinking about it, I came to terms with the fact that I needed to be satisfied and content with what was already ours. Isn’t that a theme that we could manifest in other parts of our lives? Continue reading “Country Guest Bedroom Retreat”

Total kitchen transformation

The kitchen, in my opinion, is the heartbeat of the home. This is the place, where in our home, many laughs are shared and fun memories are created. When Braden and I first moved into our home, we knew that transforming the kitchen was more than about making the space aesthetically pleasing–it was more about creating an environment where everyone could gather and enjoy the presence of one another. With my vision and Braden’s know-how, we created a space that was once just a dream for us.

It’s a New Year

Happy New Year! I love the start of a brand new year. It’s the perfect time to take a step back, reflect on previous accomplishments and failures, and set forth goals and intentions for what is to come. We always hear that it’s never too late to start over, but there’s something so refreshing about focusing and honing in on ambitions at the very beginning of a whole new year.
