Usually when I go into a room, I can pretty well get a vision for what I want the space to look like and what decisions would make the room the most practical. In this room, however, I was so frustrated! I have no idea why, but out of all the rooms in our home, this space gave me the most headache. I really wanted to create a beautiful sunroom, full of lush, green plants and lots of natural elements, but since our back door leads into this room, we also needed a designated area for shoes, purses, coats, etc. Then, to throw an ugly wrench in the plans, the washer and dryer had to find a cozy little home in here as well. The kitchen, in my opinion, is the heartbeat of the home. This is the place, where in our home, many laughs are shared and fun memories are created. When Braden and I first moved into our home, we knew that transforming the kitchen was more than about making the space aesthetically pleasing–it was more about creating an environment where everyone could gather and enjoy the presence of one another. With my vision and Braden’s know-how, we created a space that was once just a dream for us.
As many of you all know, Braden and I have embarked on one of our most exciting adventures of remodeling and restoring an Italianate/Colonial farmhouse that was built in the 1860s. There is something so special and intricate about the details, labor, and thought that went into constructing homes during this time. Construction wasn’t exactly easy then, so I like to think that each detail was a true labor of love.
